Book Review: Stardust by Neil Gaiman

rating: 4/5 stars

synopsis:

Young Tristran Thorn will do anything to win the cold heart of beautiful Victoria—even fetch her the star they watch fall from the night sky. But to do so, he must enter the unexplored lands on the other side of the ancient wall that gives their tiny village its name. Beyond that old stone wall, Tristran learns, lies Faerie—where nothing not even a fallen star, is what he imagined.

thoughts:

stardust is my first read of january and oh how perfect it was. i had a really busy and hectic month, and the magic of fallen stars and long adventures made the story the most perfect world to escape to. i listened to the book on audio and found it to be exquisite. i personally don’t think i would have enjoyed it as much if i read it physically! neil gaiman’s (yes, he’s the narrator of his own audiobook!) storytelling is just unmatched, and the way he brings the story to life makes it feel like he’s tucking you into bed and reading you a soothing bedtime story. it’s a whirlwind of an adventure. the story’s odd and quirky in the best way possible, a lot like howl’s moving castle (which he was apparently inspired by <3).

the reason this book did not get a full five stars is cause there are some parts of the story that i did not really care for, but the overarching plotline and ending of the book made the whole ride worthwhile.
