Four Disappointing books of 2017

A couple of days ago I talked about my favorite books of 2017, so I thought it'd be interesting to share with you guys some books that disappointed me this year. xD ^^' None of these books are horrible or the worst I've ever read per se. Most of these were actually not that bad, but my opinion on them could have been affected by the hype surrounding it or by high expectations. So do take into consideration that these are indeed my own opinions, and that other people might have different things to say about these books.

Anyway, here are 4 of the most disappointing books of 2017 (in no particular order)

99 Days by Katie Cotugno

Synopsis:

Day 1: Julia Donnelly eggs my house my first night back in Star Lake, and that’s how I know everyone still remembers everything—how I destroyed my relationship with Patrick the night everything happened with his brother, Gabe. How I wrecked their whole family. Now I’m serving out my summer like a jail sentence: Just ninety-nine days till I can leave for college, and be done.Day 4: A nasty note on my windshield makes it clear Julia isn’t finished. I’m expecting a fight when someone taps me on the shoulder, but it’s just Gabe, home from college and actually happy to see me. “For what it’s worth, Molly Barlow,” he says, “I’m really glad you’re back.”Day 12: Gabe got me to come to this party, and I’m actually having fun. I think he’s about to kiss me—and that’s when I see Patrick. My Patrick, who’s supposed to be clear across the country. My Patrick, who’s never going to forgive me.

Thoughts:

I couldn't even get through the second half of this book because of how exasperating the main character is. The same conflict also just keeps repeating itself and there just seems to be zero resolution? :roll: I ended up reading a spoiler review of this book and am glad that I did not end up wasting my time pushing through to finish this book. :/

Playing for Keeps by R.L. Matthewson

Synopsis:

Done with being the world's biggest pushover, Haley decides that things are going to change starting with the aggravating neighbor who has too much charm and not enough restraint. What she didn't expect was to be sucked into his world, but Haley has a game plan and she won't let herself forget just what the bad boy next door is capable of.The last thing Jason expected was for his little shy neighbor to go Rambo on him over some ruined flowers. After he decides to take her under his wing he can't help but notice that she fits very nicely in his life. Now the only thing left is to convince her that this is anything but a game.

Thoughts:

I love me some enemies to lover NA (it's actually one of my favorite tropes everrr), but when done horrible they become the worse things ever :/ This book is also way too dramatic, cheesy and overall just silly. Drama and cheesy cliches normally accounts for positive aspects (for me, at least. I'm a huge sucker for them), but by page 50 I was ready to fling this book across the room. It was just too much for me :/ 

Like A Memory by Abbi Glines

Synopsis:

The one who shut him out completely with not even a goodbye and broke his heart.They’ve each become someone different. No longer the young teens with stars in their eyes. But does that matter when your heart still says that’s the one.

Thoughts:

Hands down the most disappointing book of the year. I LOVE Abbi Glines and was undoubtedly psyched to read this book after a much hard-hitting ending in one of her books that left me in a book hangover for months. I waited for 2 years for this book only to be let down by a sorry excuse of a story that screams *I GIVE UP ON THIS SERIES AND CHARACTERS*. And this is just the first book in the series, you guys xD There was no depth to the story and it was too cliche (with over the top NA stereotypes). It was just awful. And super disappointing :( I think I'm more frustrated and angry rather than upset and disappointed, really. :/ 

The Way I Used To Be by Amber Smith

Synopsis:

Thoughts:

I had high expectations going into this book. I wanted to see how books can portray something so sever like rape and sexual assault and I came out of it feeling.. a little bit cheated on. I wanted to like this book so bad. But there just wasn't anything hard-hitting. Everything was frustrating (in an eye roll manner) and, essentially, boring. :/ The angst was too forced and overall it was just.. ugh... disappointing :( I hope you guys enjoyed reading this blogpost! What are some disappointing books that you read this year?
