Autumn Reads!šŸ‚šŸ

Hello everyone! I'm back today with a recommendation blogpost - Autumn themed!Ā šŸ‚Ā  It's not exactly Autumn here in Australia but the weather is still chilly out (especially in the morning *shiver* ) so I thought it'd be perfect for me to list some of the books that would go perfect with an abundance of blankets, candles and sweet hot drinks/treats!

The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne

33253215

Synopsis:Ā

Cyril Avery is not aĀ realĀ Avery -- or at least, that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he?

Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead. At the mercy of fortune and coincidence, he will spend a lifetime coming to know himself and where he came from and over his many years will struggle to discover an identity, a home, a country, and much more.

In this, Boyne's most transcendent work to date, we are shown the story of Ireland from the 1940s to today through the eyes of one ordinary man.Ā The Heart's Invisible FuriesĀ is a novel to make you laugh and cry while reminding us all of the redemptive power of the human spirit.

Thoughts:

ermahgerddd you guys this book is amazing! i understand if the synopsis isn't very endearing but this book is so charming. it may not grip you from the very beginning but it packs quite a punch. i did not want the story to end :'( and it's quite a chunky book too! i have a review of the book here if you're interested to read more about it! oh and it happens to be one of my favorite books of the year :') it's the perfect slow-burn story that you should savor and love <3

Sheā€™s defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when Iā€™m with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.

I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.

Chess is looking for a relationship. Iā€™ve never given a woman more than one night. But when fate leaves Chess without a home, I step up and offer her mine. Weā€™re roommates now. Friends without benefits. But itā€™s getting harder to keep our hands off each other. And the longer we live together the more I realize sheā€™s becoming my everything.

Trick isā€¦ Now that Iā€™ve made her believe Iā€™m a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?

Thoughts:

Trick by Natalia Jaster

26594092

Synopsis:

There is a rule amongst his kind: A jester doesnā€™t lie.

In the kingdom of Whimtany, Poet is renowned. Heā€™s young and pretty, a lover of men and women. He performs for the court, kisses like a scoundrel, and mocks with a silver tongue.

Yet allow him this: Itā€™s only the most cunning, most manipulative soul who can play the fool. For Poet guards a secret. One the Crown would shackle him for. One that heā€™ll risk everything to protect.

Alas, it will take more than clever words to deceive Princess Briar. Convinced that heā€™s juggling lies as well as verse, this righteous nuisance of a girl is determined to expose him.

But not all falsehoods are fiendish. Poetā€™s secret is delicate, binding the jester to the princess in an unlikely allianceā€”and kindling a breathless attraction, as alluring as it is forbidden.

Thoughts:

this one was absolutely spectacular! the story is super whimsical and it takes on such a fresh perspective. plus, it has the forbidden love trop (my faaaave xD ). also there's a jester involved (this needs to be a more common trope too ugh i love jesters). and the world is set in this fantastical seasonal kingdom and the main character princess briar is part of the autumn kingdom. i mean, if that doesn't *scream* autumn i don't know what does.

{recommended with a good cuddle buddy, some blankets and candles }

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

25334922

Synopsis:

When four classmates from a small Massachusetts college move to New York to make their way, they're broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition. There is kind, handsome Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, a quick-witted, sometimes cruel Brooklyn-born painter seeking entry to the art world; Malcolm, a frustrated architect at a prominent firm; and withdrawn, brilliant, enigmatic Jude, who serves as their center of gravity.

Over the decades, their relationships deepen and darken, tinged by addiction, success, and pride.Ā Yet their greatest challenge, each comes to realize, is Jude himself, by midlife a terrifyingly talented litigator yet an increasingly broken man, his mind and body scarred by an unspeakable childhood, and haunted by what he fears is a degree of trauma that heā€™ll not only be unable to overcomeā€”but that will define his life forever.

Thoughts:

i just realised that i'm going to be including a ton of angsty books in this list so watch out xD a little life is something. it's unlike any other book i've ever read. it could even be a little bit 'much' for some people out there but it's such an important read. it handles some sensitive topics andĀ it's one of those books where you savor its prose and cherish it for the rest of your lives (i'm still a wreck after reading this and honestly i'm still a little bit traumatised..)

{recommended during a storm or an extra cold night with lots of tissues and blankets}

when do you ever go wrong with a marissa meyer book?! personally she's my favorite author because you grow so attached to her characters and the way she adds flare to every fairytale in her books. if i could describe heartless in one word, it would be delightful! delightful in a sense that it's fantastical and whimsical. also the main character is a baker. so you can only imagine all the sweet delights that will make you drool as you read the book :o if you're interested in reading more about it my review can be found here!

Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino

Ā 23492533

Synopsis:

When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J.Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isnā€™t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer.

Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio.Thatā€™s because the novel is patterned on Emilineā€™s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that ā€œJ. Colbyā€ must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasnā€™t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront ā€œJ. Colby,ā€ but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

Thoughts:

this book broke me :'( it's super angsty but amazing. sigh. i wish i savored this book a little more. just thinking about it makes me want to re-read it again, but this time with the right kind of atmosphere.

{recommended with mellow songs playing in the background and some tea!}

i hope you guys enjoy reading this post! and happy spooktober!! may the season bring you all the pumpkins, candies and cozy snuggles.
